The Ascended

     In the not so distant future, earth is ruled by psychic aliens known as the Ascended. When the Ascended Princess Juliet of New Zeta, nearing her eighteenth birthday, announces she's looking for a female suitor rather than a male one to Ascend as her partner, eligible girls are mind probed to find possible contestants.

     Shy, anxious sixteen-year-old Darla dreams of going to culinary school to become a baker, but when her bisexuality is outed by being selected for the Ascension competition, her homophobic dad declares she won't have a home to come back to in the end. With winning the competition the only way for her to have somewhere to go, she must do everything she can to blossom out of her shell and get the gorgeous Princess Juliet's attention.

 

     But of course it’s not that safe. Not everyone is exactly okay with the way the Ascended rule everything. And a fellow contestant claims that the Ascended have a secret, one that would cause humans to start a revolution if the information got out to the public. Darla finds herself roped into this, figuring that if all else fails, she can sell the information. But then, she must decide whether to betray Princess Juliet or her own humanity, when either option could put her in danger of being “re-educated” by the Ascended's mind altering powers.
